    JANUARY 2009 -- HAPPY NEW YEAR!

January 1 -31:  COLOR BY KIDS ART COMPETITION.  Sponsored by Springhill Medical Center.  The deadline for participating in the Color By Kids Art Competition is March 13. All students on the Eastern Shore and in Mobile are welcome to participate (Kindergarten through grade 12).   Color By Kids winners receive a certificate, a gift card, and a check for their individual schools to support their art programs. First place winners also receive plaques for their schools' trophy displays.  Winning artwork will be professionally framed and on exhibit at various locations throughout Mobile and the Eastern Shore.   For more information please talk to your child's art/classroom teacher or call 460-5223.

January 8: CHIILDBIRTH PREPARATION.   (Four Consecutive Thursdays).  6:30 - 9:00 p.m.  SMC Family Center Classroom, Building 2, 4th Floor.  Includes a tour of the maternity unit and information about what to expect when having a baby at Springhill Medical Center. Registration is required by calling 340-7769.

January 13:  YOUR AMAZING NEWBORN.  6:30 - 9:00 p.m.  Springhill Medical Center Family Center Classroom in Building 2, 4th Floor.  Basics of newborn care including car seat safety and infant massage.  Registration is required by calling 340-7769. 

January 14:  BREASTFEEDING CLASS.  6:00 - 8:00 p.m.  Springhill Medical Center Family Center Classroom in Building 2, 4th Floor.  Benefits of breastfeeding, getting started, going back to work and frequently asked questions are covered. Registration is required by calling 340-7769.

January 17:  CHILDBIRTH PREPARATION.  8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.  Springhill Medical Center Family Center Classroom in Building 2, 4th Floor.  Ideal for those who live out of town or will be delivering soon. This class does not include relaxation exercises. Registration is required by calling 340-7769.

Attend this potentially life-saving course while you are pregnant or soon after your baby's birth.  Covers infant CPR and choking for birth to one year. Registration is required by calling 340-7769.
